Listen to the news

We wouldn't blame Arista Networks, Inc. (NYSE:ANET) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Andreas Bechtolsheim, the Co-Founder & Chief Architect recently netted about US$54m selling shares at an average price of US$181. However, that sale only accounted for 0.2% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

Arista Networks Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by Andreas Bechtolsheim is the biggest insider sale of Arista Networks shares that we've seen in the last year. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$169. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

In the last year Arista Networks insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Arista Networks insiders own 17% of the company, currently worth about US$36b based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
