The Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government announced today that the Mainland University Study Assistance Scheme for the 2026/2027 academic year will accept applications from eligible Hong Kong students starting today until September 21. An Education Bureau spokesman said that the funding scheme will benefit Hong Kong students studying for bachelor's degree programs at 217 designated colleges and universities in mainland China, including 165 institutions participating in the 2026/2027 school year to enroll students for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. Eligible students can apply for “means-tested funding” or “non-means-tested funding” under the financial aid scheme. The former is only provided to students who have passed the means test. Funding under the funding scheme will be disbursed on an annual basis. The funding period is the normal period of study for the bachelor's degree program for the students concerned at designated institutions in mainland China. Eligible applicants can only accept either “means-tested funding” or “exempt from means-tested funding” during the same academic year. There is no quota limit for the plan. The funding scheme is expected to benefit the vast majority of Hong Kong students with different financial needs to pursue bachelor's degree programs in mainland China.
