Insiders who acquired kr27.4m worth of Elliptic Laboratories ASA's (OB:ELABS) stock at an average price of kr7.80 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 14% price decline. Insiders invest with the hopes of seeing their money grow in value over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth kr8.39m, which is not what they expected.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Elliptic Laboratories Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Laila Danielsen bought kr23m worth of shares at a price of kr11.53 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than kr2.39 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Elliptic Laboratories insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. Their average price was about kr7.80.
