Listen to the news

When a single insider purchases stock, it is typically not a major deal. However, when multiple insiders purchase stock, like in Aimia Inc.'s (TSE:AIM) instance, it's good news for shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Aimia

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Lead Independent Director Thomas Little bought CA$273k worth of shares at a price of CA$2.75 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of CA$2.57. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid CA$1.1m for 389.41k shares. On the other hand they divested 4.64k shares, for CA$15k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by Aimia insiders. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below.
