On July 22, Li Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at the School of Vehicle and Transportation at Tsinghua University, said at the 2026 China Automobile Forum that safety first is a prerequisite for autonomous vehicles to enter the road, and safety must be guaranteed throughout the entire life cycle. After autonomous vehicles are put into operation in the market, they face multiple pressures. One is a change in responsible entities, where responsibility shifts from drivers to vehicle manufacturers and system providers; second, changes in methods. Traditional cars can be sold after approval, while autonomous vehicles require complete verification of their safety. The third is a change in process.
