The Zhitong Finance App learned that the AI giant OpenAI, which is heavily betting on by Microsoft (MSFT.US), is moving further into the open market — recently, its foundation and its for-profit entity OpenAI Group PBC have both welcomed new directors. The candidates have all been deeply involved in the financial services industry and open capital markets for many years.

The new directors are David Vélez (David Vélez) and Robin Vince (Robin Vince), respectively. Velez is the founder and CEO of Nubank (NU.US), a digital finance platform headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since its inception in 2013, the company has been one of the world's largest digital financial service providers; Vince has been in charge of Bank of New York Mellon (BNY.US) since 2022, and previously worked at Goldman Sachs (GS.US) for over 25 years.

Bret Taylor (Bret Taylor), Chairman of the Board of the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC, said, “Both David and Robin are outstanding leaders who use technology to reshape financial services and expand economic opportunities around the world. This experience will bring irreplaceable value to OpenAI's mission of serving more businesses and individuals and ensuring that AI benefits the public. We really welcome them to join us.”

OpenAI's board of directors has now expanded to 10 members, including Taylor, Sam Altman (Sam Altman), Adam D'Angelo (Adam D'Angelo), Sue Desmond-Hellman (Sue Desmond-Hellman), Sarah Friar (Sarah Friar), Zico Kolter (Zico Kolter), Paul M. Nakasone (Paul M. Nakasone), and Nicole Seligman (Nicole) Seligman).

Notably, OpenAI secretly submitted an IPO prospectus to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in June of this year. The market generally expects the listing to be completed by the end of this year as soon as possible. Analysis also indicates that the official listing may be delayed until the beginning of 2027. The introduction of a major director in the financial sector has undoubtedly paved the way for a potential IPO, and also demonstrated its determination to transform into a public company.
