06:23 AM EDT, 07/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Italian tire maker Pirelli (PIRC.MI), Pyrum Innovations (PYR.F, PYRUM.OL), Polish chemicals group Synthos, and BASF (BAS.F) launched a tire-to-tire recycling project across Europe, according to a Wednesday release. Under the initiative, end-of-life tires across Germany and scrap tires from Pirelli's Breuberg plant will be transformed into ISCC PLUS-certified secondary raw materials, including synthetic rubber, which Pirelli will redeploy into production. Meanwhile, recycling technology company Pyrum will use old tires to produce recovered carbon black and tire pyrolysis oil. Pirelli will reintroduce upgraded recovered carbon black into its European operations, while German chemicals group BASF will take tire pyrolysis oil for the production of products such as butadiene and styrene.
