Nasdaq-listed company Trump Media Technology Group operates Trump's social networking platform “Real Social”. Last week, the company launched a new data service that can prioritize the promotion of posts posted by the platform's top accounts at millisecond speed. Multiple people familiar with the matter revealed that the price of this service is as high as 100,000 US dollars per month. Due to the uncertainty of the current administration's policies, Trump's posts on real social media have long been viewed by hedge funds and large institutional investors as key variables affecting fluctuations in the stock, foreign exchange, commodities, and bond markets. James Cox, a professor of corporate and securities law at Duke University, pointed out that Trump and his White House team “have no right to profit from the commercialization of information generated by public office”; this paid service to read posts first is essentially Trump using government information to obtain private profits. The service is most valuable to high-frequency trading institutions — compared to other counterparties, the information advantage of only a few milliseconds can bring huge profits. A macro hedge fund executive said bluntly, “His post affects market trends; we can only pay for it. This is ridiculous to the point where I see no wonder.”
