Brazil is taking urgent action to avoid a ban on the export of its animal products to the European Union. As the world's largest exporter of beef and poultry, its trade volume of over $1.8 billion is at risk. A senior Brazilian diplomat with knowledge of the negotiations said that the country is exchanging information and providing additional guarantees with the EU before the September 3 deadline to prove that it meets EU standards for the use of antimicrobials in animal husbandry.
