The statement pointed out that related acts may further exacerbate regional tension and may cause Yemen to become more deeply involved in regional conflicts. The statement warned that the continued deterioration of the situation in Yemen will damage the prospects for peace and have a serious impact on the economy, humanitarianism and the environment in the region and beyond. Guterres called on all parties to immediately ease the situation, urged the Houthis to stop all further attacks or other escalations, and strictly abide by UN Security Council Resolution 2722 and subsequent relevant resolutions on protecting commercial vessels and maintaining freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Guterres also stressed that international navigation rights and freedom of navigation must be fully restored in the Mander Strait and surrounding waters.
