The HKSAR Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology signed the “Cooperation Agreement on Promoting the Joint Construction of a Manufacturing Innovation Center between the Ministry and Hong Kong”
The Zhitong Finance App learned that on July 28, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology signed a “Cooperation Agreement on Promoting the Joint Construction of a Manufacturing Innovation Center between the Ministry and Hong Kong” at the government headquarters. Professor Sun Dong, Director of the Bureau for Innovation, Technology and Industry, and Xiong Jijun, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, signed the agreement on behalf of the two parties. The signing of this agreement is an important step to implement the “Cooperation Agreement on Developing New Quality Productivity and Promoting New Industrialization” between the two sides in September 2024. It aims to deepen industrial cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong, promote Hong Kong's better integration into the overall national development agenda, and jointly support the construction of a manufacturing innovation center in Hong Kong.
Professor Sun Dong said that this year's “Budget” has proposed reserving funds to support the establishment of the first overseas manufacturing innovation center in Hong Kong, focusing on key technological breakthroughs, industrialization of achievements, and international talent gathering. The HKSAR Government supports the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute to take the lead in operating this innovation center on an existing basis. This move will connect with national technology and industrial strategies, rely on Hong Kong's existing semiconductor ecosystem, and give full play to its unique advantages.
Before signing the agreement, the two sides also met to have in-depth exchanges on topics such as connecting Hong Kong with the country's new industrialization development plan, deepening collaboration with mainland cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and integrating into the country's modern industrial system.
