Sun Lei, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, spoke on the 28th after the General Assembly passed the transition decision for intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform, pointing out that intergovernmental negotiations are the only legal platform for discussing Security Council reform. Sun Lei said that China welcomes the adoption by consensus by the General Assembly of an oral decision to technically transition the current session of the Security Council reform intergovernmental negotiations to the next session of the General Assembly. Intergovernmental negotiations are the only legitimate platform for discussing Security Council reform issues. Security Council reform concerns the vital interests of all countries. China hopes that all parties will uphold a strategic vision and long-term vision, jointly maintain their position as the main channel for intergovernmental negotiations, adhere to the principle of consensus among member States, continue to have in-depth communication and forge consensus in intergovernmental negotiations, and ensure that the reform process develops in the only right direction of enhancing the representation and voice of developing countries, and continues to move steadily and far-reaching. Sun Lei said that China is ready to work with all parties to continue to push Security Council reform in a direction that conforms to the common interests of Member States and the healthy development of the cause of the United Nations, and to make positive contributions to the establishment of a more just and rational global governance system.
