On the afternoon of July 29, local time, a wildfire broke out in the Rethymnon region of Crete in southern Greece. Eight helicopters and more than 150 firefighters participated in fighting the fire. Strong winds fueled the spread of the fire and at one point prevented firefighters from putting out the fire. According to the local fire department, 3 firefighters died in this wildfire. At present, an evacuation order has been issued in the area where the wildfire occurred, and the Greek Coast Guard dispatched boats to evacuate personnel.
