Simply Wall St·07/30/2026 18:20:01
Listen to the news

Cementir Holding stock closed at €15.06 after the market had a full day to absorb fresh Q2 numbers. The price barely moved over the past week and month, yet the earnings story is anything but flat. The headline is profitability. Net income for Q2 reached €54.6m on revenue of €475.0m and the trailing twelve month net margin now sits at 11.8%. That marks a clear step up from 9.4% a year earlier and puts the spotlight on earnings quality rather than short term price noise.

Cementir margin story passes first earnings stress test

Bulls argue Cementir’s white cement focus and low carbon push can lift margins even when volumes are mixed. Q2 data provides some backing. Group revenue grew 8.2% year on year while net margin on a trailing basis is now 11.8% compared with 9.4% a year earlier. That points to better earnings quality rather than just volume recovery. Management also reports non GAAP Q2 EBITDA up 12.9% with cement volumes up 3.4%, which supports the idea that pricing power and mix, including white cement, are doing some heavy lifting. Belgium and France show this in practice, with higher cement volumes and lower raw material and CO2 costs feeding into EBITDA growth. The Nymølle deal and the large Danish CCS subsidy from 2030 are consistent with the claimed tilt toward higher return, lower carbon assets, even if most of the economic benefit lies ahead.

Bear risks on FX and costs not fully cleared

The cautious view is that Cementir’s earnings are hostage to FX, energy and weak construction demand. Recent results show those concerns are not imaginary. H1 non GAAP EBITDA fell 10% and margin moved from 21.2% to 19.3%, despite the stronger trailing net margin. Nordic and Baltic EBITDA fell about 21% as harsh winter weather, CO2 taxes and variable costs hit earnings. Turkey illustrates FX risk clearly. Lira devaluation of about 27% against the euro and weaker domestic volumes contributed to a 19% revenue decline and weaker EBITDA. FX movements in Turkey and the US together reduced revenue by €37.4m and slightly reduced EBITDA. Asia Pacific pressure is visible as well, with China volumes down and Malaysia EBITDA cut by more than half due to logistics costs. Bulls can point to Q2 momentum and reiterated guidance, but the regional and FX headwinds remain very present in the numbers.
