PROG Holdings stock barely budged today, inching up about 0.3% to US$42.92 after a week that left shares slightly lower and a month that has been tougher. The muted move hides a far louder earnings story. Q2 revenue from continuing operations came in around US$719.7m with basic earnings per share near US$0.93. Management also lifted full year revenue and earnings guidance. For short term traders, the shrug in the share price may feel underwhelming. For longer term holders, the focus now shifts to whether this guidance reset can support the current valuation.

Bulls argue PROG Holdings is shifting from a legacy leasing business to a higher quality, digital and AI led model that can steadily lift margins and earnings. Q2 gives real evidence of that shift. Four Technologies doubled GMV and revenue while keeping a healthy 24.8% adjusted EBITDA margin, with Four Plus subscribers now driving about 80% of GMV. Purchasing Power moved from almost breakeven in Q1 to US$10.6m of adjusted EBITDA and an 8.1% margin as integration and product tweaks, including the AI shopping assistant, improved conversion.
At the same time, Progressive Leasing’s revenue edged lower, yet gross margin widened and segment EBITDA margin reached a post COVID second quarter high. Management cited AI driven underwriting and tighter approvals as reasons they can keep write offs near the top of the long run target range. The raised full year revenue and earnings guidance appears consistent with this execution progress.

See the consensus price target analysis for PROG Holdings to gauge whether analyst targets are keeping pace with this earnings story. The cautious view on PROG Holdings is that a concentrated lease to own core and a volatile BNPL arm leave earnings exposed even if newer units are growing. Q2 only partly challenges that. Four Technologies and Purchasing Power posted strong GMV and margin progress, but Progressive Leasing revenue declined 3.4% while still carrying the bulk of group revenue. That supports the concern that diversification is not yet deep enough to offset pressure in the legacy product mix.
Bears also worry about credit and regulatory sensitivity for nonprime customers. Lease merchandise write offs in Progressive were 8.4% of revenue and management expects the full year near the top of the 6% to 8% target range. That does not signal a break in credit, but it does not clear the risk either. The muted share price reaction after a guidance raise suggests the market is still treating these issues as unresolved.
