On July 27, SPD Bank issued an announcement stating that the China General Administration of Financial Supervision and Administration has agreed to increase the bank's registered capital to 33.306 billion yuan. It is worth noting that the current change in SPD Bank's share capital is due to SPD's debt-for-share conversion. The bank issued A-share convertible bonds with a total face value of 50 billion yuan in 2019. As of maturity, a total of 3,954 billion shares had been converted. A few days ago, Ziyin Convertible Bonds also expired and were delisted. Unlike SPD Convertible Bonds, the ratio of unconverted shares of this bond was 99.98%, and the issuer finally paid with real money. Convertible bonds were once seen as a powerful tool to supplement capital for small and medium-sized banks. Since this year, the bank conversion bond issuance market has been sluggish, the scale of convertible bonds in stock has shrunk, the share conversion ratio is not ideal, and some banks are facing challenges in capital replenishment.
