Due to market expectations that the US and Iran will soon hold a new round of negotiations, international crude oil futures prices dropped significantly after the start of the new week's trading on the afternoon of the 2nd EST. As of 19:00 EST on the 2nd, the price of light crude oil futures for September delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell as low as $74.78 per barrel, down $5.89 from the closing price of the previous trading day, or 6.96%; the lowest price of London Brent crude oil futures for October delivery fell to $81.55 per barrel, down $6.38 from the closing price of the previous trading day, or 7.26%. At the time of press release, the price decline in light crude oil futures for September delivery and London Brent crude oil futures for October delivery had narrowed to around 4% on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
