Alibaba unveiled its latest flagship artificial intelligence model and said its performance is comparable to leading global products such as Anthropic's Fable. This new model, called Thousand Questions 3.8-Max, has 2.4 trillion parameters and ranks higher in some benchmarks than the recently released high-profile Kimi K3 model from Dark Side of the Moon. Results shared by Alibaba showed that the model scored as much as Anthropic's Fable 5, and sometimes even better. Before Alibaba's new model debuted, Kimi K3 from the Dark Side of the Moon caused a stir in the stock market and Silicon Valley last month. DeepSeek also launched an open beta version of its application programming interface for its flagship model, v4 Flash, last week. “Due to US chip restrictions or widespread skepticism, many investors continue to underestimate China's AI model,” said Ling Vey—Sern, managing director of Union Bancaire Privacei. “In reality, the gap is probably much smaller, and it's closing fast. After Kimi K3, Alibaba's Thousand Questions 3.8 is another proof.” On Monday, Alibaba's Hong Kong-listed stock price once soared 7.3%, the biggest increase in nearly a month.
