Hang Seng Index Company: Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 13.1% and 13.9% respectively in July

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to data released by Hang Seng Index, the Hong Kong stock market (represented by the Hang Seng Composite Index) rose 10.9% in July. The Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 13.1% and 13.9% respectively, while the Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng Index Volatility Index fell 17% and 11%, respectively, to 21 and 24. The Hang Seng Technology Index, which tracks leading technology companies listed in Hong Kong, rose 8.0% in July. The Hang Seng Biotech Index tracks large biotech companies listed in Hong Kong and rose 9.8% in July.

The Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect China 500 Index, which reflects the performance of the 500 largest listed companies in Hong Kong and the Mainland, recorded a 1.4% decline in July. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng A-Share Connect 300 Index, which reflects the performance of the 300 largest listed companies in the Mainland, recorded a 7.0% decline. In the Hang Seng Composite Index industry index, non-essential consumption performed better in July (+19.2%), while industry performed worse (-8.2%). In the Hang Seng Index series, the Hang Seng Composite Industry Index - Non-essential consumption had the best performance (+19.2%), followed by Hang Seng Hong Kong Stock Connect Nonferrous Metals Industry Index (+18.4%) and Hang Seng Hong Kong Stock Connect China Private Enterprise Index (+17.7%).

Within the thematic index series, the Hang Seng Hong Kong Stock Connect Mainland China Bank Index performed well in the Hong Kong market (+14.1%); while the Hang Seng Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong Innovative Drug Selection 50 Index performed well in the Mainland and across markets (+6.9%). In the ESG Index series, the Hang Seng Index ESG Enhancement Index performed well in the Hong Kong market (+14.6%), while the Hang Seng Mainland and Hong Kong Sustainable Development Enterprise Index performed better in the Mainland and across markets (+6.2%).

In the factor index series, the Hang Seng Large and Medium Cap Low Volatility Index, which tracks the “low volatility” factor, rose 12.1% in July, superior to all other factors in the Hong Kong market. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng A-Share Low Volatility All-Choice Index (-5.6%) and the Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect China Low Volatility All-Choice Index (+3.9%) performed better in the mainland and across markets, respectively.

The Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect Greater Bay Area Composite Index fell 3.0%. In the industry and theme/factor and strategy classification indices, the top performers were consumer services (+11.3%) and quality growth (+13.0%), respectively.

As of July 31, the total asset management value of products passively tracking the Hang Seng Index series was approximately US$112.54 billion (+6.2%). The total asset management value of exchange-traded products linked to the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprise Index and Hang Seng Technology Index is approximately US$22.3 billion (+9.3%), US$8 billion (+2.3%), and US$40.3 billion (-0.4%), respectively.
