The Greek fire department said on the 2nd that the wildfires in the Attica region, where the country's capital Athens is located, were apparently caused by sparks generated by a faulty transmission line. The faulty transmission line transmits electricity from a private wind farm to the main grid. Police have arrested 2 suspects, the engineer responsible for designing and supervising the power project and the contractor involved in the construction of the transmission network. They are facing felony charges of arson. Authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for the head of the wind power company.
