Driven by continuing tension in the Middle East, demand for hybrid models is strong. The total sales volume of new cars in the US by the four largest Japanese car companies increased 1.9% year-on-year in July, reaching 44,6544 units. The continuing deterioration of the situation in the Middle East is driving up global oil prices, which is beneficial to fuel-efficient hybrid models. As demand for new cars in the US remains resilient, Japanese car companies continue to enrich their hybrid product matrices. The sales volume of Toyota, which is number one in the world, fell slightly by 0.8% to 216,361 units; however, electrified models, including hybrids, accounted for 55.7% of total sales, an increase of 12.3 percentage points over the previous year. Thanks to the popularity of hybrid models and cost-effective models, Honda's sales increased 12.8% to 13,6549 units. Subaru's sales increased 0.8% to 54,454 units; Mazda's sales fell 13.0% to only 39,180 units, partly due to weak sales of the main SUV models.
