On August 5, TinyGPU v2.0, the world's smallest GPU chip developed by amateur ASIC/FPGA designer Pongsagon Vichit, has successfully passed actual testing. The chip is manufactured using the Sky 25b process in the Tiny TapeOut community and contains approximately 240,000 transistors. In actual testing, it can handle calculations such as smooth coloring, backside removal, and affine texture mapping of up to 1,000 polygons or triangles, and successfully rendered 3D models and rotating Earth models in real time, maintaining a frame rate of 7.5 to 15 FPS. TinyGPU v3.0 is expected to launch in December 2026. The biggest technical highlight of the v3.0 version is the introduction of a programmable pixel shader inspired by DirectX 8 PS 1.1, which supports SIMD 4-pixel parallel computing and 26 instruction sets, which will bring significant improvements in image quality and detail performance.
