By studying fossils in the “Iwu Jurassic Forest” in Xinjiang, scientists have quantitatively revealed for the first time the level of productivity of forest ecosystems about 160 million years ago. The study found that in a greenhouse climate, the average annual net primary productivity of this forest is significantly higher than that of modern forests at the same latitude, which is about 3 times the average of modern temperate coniferous forests. The relevant results were published in the international academic journal “Advances in Science” on August 6.
