On August 6, the Chengdu Intermediate People's Court of Sichuan Province handed down a public judgment in the first instance in the bribery case of Wang Shanping, former deputy secretary of the Ziyang Municipal Committee of Sichuan Province and former mayor of the municipal government. Defendant Wang Shanping was sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of RMB 4 million yuan for bribery; Wang Shanping's bribery proceeds seized in the case were recovered and handed over to the national treasury. After trial, it was discovered that from 2003 to 2024, defendant Wang Shanping used his position as mayor of Wanyuan City in Sichuan Province, secretary of the Kaijiang County Committee, secretary of the Quxian County Committee, deputy mayor of Dazhou, deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Poverty Alleviation and Immigration Bureau, deputy mayor of Bazhong City, deputy secretary of the municipal party committee, deputy secretary of the Nanchong Municipal Committee, deputy secretary of the Ziyang Municipal Committee, mayor, etc., and convenient conditions formed by authority and position to help others with illegal collection and adjustment of matters such as project undertaking, fund disbursement, business operation, and positions. The total amount of property received was over RMB 41.32 million.
