Chime Financial came into this print as a richly valued fintech with strong growth expectations and a history of losses. The stock had already run hard, and today the market pushed it up another 20.6% to US$31.25 after earnings.
That kind of move only happens when a story shifts. For Chime, the headline is clear. Revenue reached US$669.8m in Q2 2026 and the company posted a second straight quarter of GAAP net income at US$28m, with adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization margin at 15%. The market is treating that as proof of a profitability turn, not just another growth quarter.

Bulls argue Chime Financial can pair app led growth with durable profitability as ChimeCore, MyPay and Prime scale together. Q2 hits several checkpoints. Revenue reached US$669.8m with adjusted EBITDA of US$102m, which translates to a 15% margin and roughly 60% incremental margins according to management. That backs the idea of genuine operating leverage rather than one off cost cuts. GAAP net income of US$28m and a second profitable quarter support the claim that Q1 was not a one off. Member growth of 20% year over year and ARPAM of US$260 show monetization keeping pace with the user base. MyPay transaction profit tripled year over year to US$73m on loss rates around 90 bps, which speaks directly to the narrative that Chime’s primary account relationships can support scalable, data informed lending economics.
The main bear argument is that Chime’s profitability is fragile given rewards costs, credit risk and execution on ChimeCore and new products. Q2 partly challenges that view but does not remove it. Transaction margin of 73%, up 4 points year over year, suggests processing and unit economics are improving rather than eroding as ChimeCore and higher credit mix ramp. At the same time, Prime’s 5% cash back lifted card volume but also pushed rewards expense above plan, which validates concerns that richer rewards can eat into margins if not tightly managed. Bears worried about credit have to weigh rapid MyPay and instant loan growth against the reported 90 bps loss rate and repeat borrower performance, which currently look contained. The workforce reduction and CFO departure introduce some execution risk, and management is guiding to flat payroll and higher adjusted EBITDA margins.
