Gogo went into this earnings print as a deep value stock on paper, trading at about US$3.64 and roughly flat on the day despite a weak 7 day stretch and a much softer 90 day run. The market barely flinched. The results were more complicated. Revenue for this quarter sat at US$222.8m and the company posted a small net loss of about US$2m. The real story for investors now is whether that loss, against a still low price to sales multiple near 0.5x, represents early turbulence or a longer flight delay.

The bullish view on Gogo centers on a shift toward recurring, higher margin service revenue backed by multi network connectivity and government contracts. Q2 provides some concrete progress on that story. Service revenue held at US$191.3m and inched higher sequentially, even as total revenue and equipment sales softened. That supports the idea that the core connectivity and software revenue base is becoming more central than hardware.
Operational milestones also align with this narrative of service-led growth. Galileo low earth orbit (LEO) aircraft online increased 66% quarter on quarter to 184, with 108 Galileo units shipped in Q2 and 518 shipped in total. Military and government service revenue grew 40% year on year and 20% sequentially, which fits the claim of more durable, contracted demand in that segment. However, the modest cut to full year revenue and EBITDA guidance indicates that the transition is not yet on a fully smooth schedule.
Compare Gogo’s recurring service gains with what institutions are pricing in. See the consensus price target analysis for Gogo to find out whether Wall Street’s targets align with this service-led thesis. The bearish view on Gogo argues that rising competition and capital intensity will erode returns and make growth too dependent on lumpy hardware cycles. This quarter gives that concern some support. Total revenue and service revenue both declined 1% year on year while equipment fell 2% and 18% quarter on quarter, so the upgrade cycle is not yet a clear growth engine. Installations of Galileo are progressing, but only 184 LEO aircraft are online against 5,731 ATG aircraft. This keeps the business heavily exposed to the legacy base that bears worry is at risk.
Critically, guidance cuts on full year revenue and adjusted EBITDA, tied to slower Galileo and 5G shipments and higher litigation expense, show that execution on new platforms is behind earlier expectations. Net leverage at 3.8x, above the longer term target range, reinforces concerns that high investment needs and interest costs still limit financial flexibility.
