Cipher Digital (CIFR) reported second quarter 2026 earnings with lower sales and a much larger net loss, yet the stock remains in focus after early Black Pearl HPC delivery and fresh Stingray project financing.
The company posted second quarter sales of US$24.84 million compared with US$43.57 million a year earlier. Net loss widened to US$267.53 million, with basic and diluted loss per share from continuing operations at US$0.65 versus US$0.12.
For the first half of 2026, Cipher Digital reported sales of US$59.68 million compared with US$92.52 million a year before. Net loss for the period was US$381.85 million, and basic and diluted loss per share from continuing operations were US$0.94 versus US$0.23.
These results arrived just days before an operational update that many investors are watching closely. Cipher Digital delivered the initial Black Pearl high performance compute capacity two months ahead of schedule, with rent expected to begin in August 2026.
The company also expanded its data center pipeline, adding new sites and increasing its portfolio to about 5.3 GW across 11 locations. Cipher Digital secured US$810 million in project financing for its Stingray site, which underscores continued progress on large scale infrastructure development.
Taken together, the earnings release and subsequent project updates present a mixed picture for Cipher Digital stock. Recent financial results appear weak, while the company is also reporting significant build out of high performance compute and bitcoin mining infrastructure.

Cipher Digital’s share price has fallen 23.03% over the past week and 22.30% over the past month, with this pullback following weak quarterly results despite progress on Black Pearl and Stingray. Even so, the 1-year total shareholder return of 261.68% and 3-year total shareholder return of about 4.7x point to strong longer term gains. The most followed narrative on Cipher Digital puts fair value at about $32.79 a share compared with the last close of $17.18. This frames a wide value gap that hinges on aggressive growth assumptions.
The analysts have a consensus price target of $32.79 for Cipher Digital based on their expectations of its future earnings growth, profit margins and other risk factors.
However, there is a degree of disagreement amongst analysts, with the most bullish reporting a price target of $69.0, and the most bearish reporting a price target of just $23.0.

The core assumptions behind that fair value depend on a steep earnings ramp, meaning small changes to margins or growth could have an outsized impact on where Cipher Digital’s valuation lands.

The first narrative paints Cipher Digital as undervalued against a fair value of $32.79. A simple P/S check tells a different story. The stock trades on a P/S of 37.3x, compared with 3.7x for the US Software industry, 25.8x for peers and a fair ratio of 13.2x.
That gap suggests investors currently pay a large premium per dollar of revenue, well above both sector averages and the fair ratio the market could move toward. If sentiment cools or forecasts are revised, how much room is there for the multiple to compress before it lines up with those benchmarks?
