Shares in DroneShield Ltd (ASX: DRO) were briefly trading higher on Monday morning after the company announced the launch of RfRecon – a portable radio frequency intelligence solution.
The anti-drone technology company said in a statement to the ASX that RfRecon was the flagship product in its new suite of solutions, and "enables operators to rapidly sense, identify, locate and assess RF activity from a single device, providing operational context to support faster and more informed decisions''.
The company added:
Following several years of research and development, RfRecon delivers a step change in capability. Built on DroneShield's recently proprietary architecture, RfAI-3 launched intelligence RfRecon enables operators to move beyond simply collecting spectrum data, to understanding what that activity means in an operational context. It addresses the increasing complexity of the electromagnetic environment, driven by the rapid growth of uncrewed systems, electronic warfare capabilities and wireless communications surrounding today's operators.
RfRecon, the company said, combines ultra-wideband spectrum awareness, precision direction finding, and "RfAI-3 powered signal intelligence within a single portable capability''.
The technology is designed for "dismounted, vehicle-mounted, expeditionary and fixed-site operations'', DroneShield said, and it could be integrated into existing security ecosystems.
DroneShield Managing Director Angus Bean said:
The electromagnetic spectrum has become one of the most important sources of operational intelligence on the modern battlefield, but collecting data is no longer enough. The teams that gain the greatest advantage will be those that can rapidly understand what they are seeing and confidently act on it. RfRecon reflects that shift by bringing RF intelligence directly to the tactical edge.
DroneShield said while the dollar amount of expected sales could not be currently quantified, it was expected to be material over time, and the company would provide guidance when available.
The company added:
Initial market engagement activities have commenced with qualified defence, government and security customers worldwide. Subject to customer procurement timelines, there is potential for orders being received and revenue contribution commencing in 2H 2026. RfRecon will also benefit from ongoing enhancements delivered through DroneShield's software and services subscription roadmap, ensuring customers have access to future improvements in RF intelligence capabilities over time.
DroneShield shares hit an early high of $2.28, up 4.6%, before falling back to be 0.9%, or 2 cents, lower at $2.16.
For context the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is 33.5 points, or 0.36% lower at 9230.1.
DroneShield shares are 44.3% lower over a 12-month period. The company is valued at $2.01 billion.
