On August 11, Sony Semiconductor Solutions and TSMC announced the signing of a final cooperation agreement to establish Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, a joint venture in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. Using advanced process technology, the company will be responsible for R&D and manufacturing activities required for mass production of smartphone image sensors, and mass production is expected to begin in 2029. According to the agreement, Sony will act as the sole controlling shareholder of the joint venture and plans to operate it as a consolidated subsidiary of the Sony Group. The representative director of the joint venture will be appointed by Sony. Sony plans to invest about 465 billion yen into the joint venture through cash investment and asset transfer, and TSMC plans to invest about 282 billion yen in cash. The relevant capital will be invested in stages according to market demand and business conditions.
