The Guiyang Market Supervisor's WeChat reported on August 11 that on July 1, with the fall of the hammer, an oversized case involving the manufacture and sale of shoddy sauce-flavored liquor, which took nearly two years and spanned three provincial and municipal market supervision departments and public security authorities, reached a final trial in the People's Court of Huaxi District of Guiyang City. The main offender, Han, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of 2.17 million yuan; Hu was sentenced to 7 years in prison and a fine of 260,000 yuan; and Peng was sentenced to 1 year in prison, suspended for 2 years, and a fine of 100,000 yuan. Nearly 20,000 pieces of counterfeit and shoddy products were seized throughout the case. The value of the goods involved was about 8 million yuan. The sales network covered 15 provinces and cities including Guangdong, Tianjin, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. Han and others used low-end alcohol “skewers” for 20 yuan to 30 yuan each, posing as a genuine series of sauce-flavored liquors and selling them for 399 yuan during the live broadcast. Behind the huge profits is serious damage to consumers' rights and interests, as well as serious damage to the brand image and market order of Guizhou Sauce-flavored Liquor.
