Nuclear Energy Stocks For AI Power Demand Starting With Duke Energy

Simply Wall St·08/12/2026 12:33:32
Listen to the news

Energy driven inflation in Europe keeps nuclear power in the spotlight as governments look for reliable, low carbon electricity that is less exposed to fuel price swings. That focus turns investors toward nuclear energy stocks, where projects can reflect long term policy and energy security goals. This article highlights three stocks from our Nuclear Energy Stocks screener that show how different parts of the nuclear value chain may benefit.

The stocks below are just a starting sample, and the full screen surfaced 297 more nuclear energy companies with equally compelling narratives that are not covered here. Head straight into the Nuclear Energy Stocks screener to identify, filter and analyze the nuclear energy stocks that best fit your own convictions.

NANO Nuclear Energy (NNE)

NANO Nuclear Energy is a New York based nuclear developer working on a suite of microreactors, including the KRONOS and LOKI MMR concepts, as well as ZEUS and ODIN reactor designs and a planned high assay low enriched uranium fuel processing facility. The company also aims to build fuel transport and nuclear consulting operations. It currently has a market cap of about US$997 million.

NANO Nuclear Energy provides exposure to a pure play focus on microreactors and the nuclear fuel chain at a time when AI data centers, defense users and remote sites are all looking for reliable, compact power. The company is still pre revenue and loss making, yet it already has a US$577.5 million cash position, regulatory progress on the KRONOS prototype at the University of Illinois and a new SBIR Phase I contract with the U.S. Air Force that points to potential defense use cases. Forecasts referenced in the market commentary cited in relation to the company imply very fast future revenue growth, and analysts referenced in that commentary see meaningful upside to the current share price, but those expectations rely on successful licensing, commercialization and careful control of funding and dilution.

Fast moving microreactor ambitions, a US$577.5 million cash position and early defense traction give NANO Nuclear Energy a big story, but the real twist sits inside the analyst forecasts for NANO Nuclear Energy

Duke Energy (DUK)

Duke Energy is one of the largest regulated utilities in the U.S., supplying electricity and gas across the Southeast and Midwest. Most of its roughly US$33.0b in revenue comes from the Electric Utilities and Infrastructure segment at about US$30.2b, with Gas Utilities and Infrastructure contributing around US$3.2b and the rest from other items and internal adjustments. The company has a market cap of about US$94.5b.

Duke Energy provides exposure to regulated power markets that are closely tied to data center growth and long term grid investment. It has 7.8 GW of data center service agreements and one of the largest regulated nuclear fleets in the country. The company faces risks related to heavy capital needs, a dividend that free cash flow does not fully cover, and reliance on external borrowing, which raises funding and interest rate sensitivity. Recent earnings beats, supportive legislation in key states, and plans for large scale grid and generation upgrades indicate that the central question is how effectively Duke can balance this growth strategy with its leverage and regulatory commitments, rather than whether there are growth opportunities available.

Duke Energy’s growth plans and data center exposure are getting most of the attention, yet the real story lies in how the balance sheet and regulation interact. Get the full context in the Duke Energy financial health report

Fluor (FLR)

Fluor is a global engineering and construction company that designs, builds, and manages large projects for energy, mining, infrastructure, life sciences, and government clients, including nuclear and defense work. Most of its roughly US$15.5b in revenue comes from Urban Solutions at about US$10.3b, with Energy Solutions and Mission Solutions contributing around US$2.6b each. The stock has a market cap of about US$7.0b.

Fluor gives you exposure to big ticket themes such as energy transition, nuclear remediation, LNG and critical minerals, backed by a sizeable project backlog and recent wins like the Aramco program management role and LNG Canada work. Analysts expect earnings to grow, helped by a focus on cash generation, project margins and share buybacks, yet the company is still working through unprofitable results, project delays, FX hits and past claims that have weighed on cash flow. The stock screens as undervalued against estimated fair value. This makes execution quality, funding risk and management discipline critical issues to understand before deciding how Fluor fits into a nuclear and infrastructure focused watchlist.

Fluor’s project backlog, earnings focus and buybacks hint at a story investors have not fully priced in yet. See how that thesis compares with the detailed analysis report for Fluor
