One week after Bank of America hedge fund clients bought US stocks for close to record amounts, investment levels reached their highest level since 2008. The bank's strategist, led by Jill Carey Hall, wrote in the research report that in the week ending August 7, customers had net purchases of US stocks for the sixth consecutive week, injecting US$4.1 billion into the ETF, and withdrawing US$2.4 billion from individual stocks. Both institutional and retail customers sold net during the same period, while corporate customers accelerated repurchases. Customers sold 7 out of 11 sectors, with industrial stocks having the largest outflow of capital, while the technology sector recorded the second-largest gold suction week in history.
