According to reports, SK Hynix has begun phased deployment of AI systems at its semiconductor back-end production line in Cheongju. The specific equipment involved has not been disclosed. The company is currently evaluating the production performance of the equipment, as well as the effectiveness and reliability of AI systems in production environments. The assessment is expected to be completed by the end of the year. An industry insider said that SK Hynix's key performance indicators for equipment verification personnel are directly linked to the successful verification and deployment of AI software. This means that the results brought by engineers to improve production yield through the use of AI are now reflected in their performance evaluations. Samsung Electronics is also actively introducing AI into the semiconductor manufacturing business to improve production efficiency. According to industry sources, the company requires equipment vendors to include AI agents as standard for newly ordered devices. A source said that Samsung previously adopted a conservative attitude towards AI due to safety and reliability considerations, but recently changed its strategy and actively deployed AI for process control and broader manufacturing operations.
