The US government is about to issue 30-year treasury bonds at the highest interest rate in 25 years. Previously, long-term US bonds experienced a historic sell-off, triggering market speculation that the US may further shift its borrowing structure to a shorter term. The US Treasury Department will conduct a monthly bid sale of 25 billion US dollars of 30-year Treasury bonds late on Thursday. In the pre-issue market, where the bond is traded before it is actually sold, the expected yield of this new bond is about 5.24%. If it finally reaches this level, it will be the highest financing cost since 2001. This was a tough question for both US President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent before the November midterm elections. After years of high inflation and high government spending, the cost of government financing remains high and has begun to spread to the wider economy.
