10:37 AM EDT, 08/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- London's High Court on Thursday ruled in favor of Novartis (NOVN.SW) in a patent case involving the Swiss healthcare giant's Entresto blockbuster drug. Accord Healthcare, a unit of India-based Intas Pharmaceuticals that is planning to launch a generic rival for Entresto later in 2026, sought to invalidate Novartis' patent for the heart failure drug. Novartis' European patent for Entresto expired in January 2023, but the company has a supplementary protection certificate that is valid until 2028. "All the attacks on the Patent fail; it was valid while in force," High Court Justice Richard Meade said in his ruling, adding that Accord's intended product would also infringe the supplementary protection certificate. Novartis and Accord did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
