freenet heads into this earnings season with the stock at €23.92 and essentially flat over the past month, yet down about 9% over three months. That muted price profile contrasts with a quarter that put cash generation and subscriber growth firmly in focus.
The headline from Q2 is simple: freenet is leaning on its telecom core to grow subscriptions and has turned that into €155m of free cash flow in the first half, while still confirming full year guidance. The near term share price drift and the longer term cash and earnings profile are telling two very different stories.

Bulls argue that freenet can use its telecom core, waipu.tv and mobilezone to deliver faster revenue growth and higher earnings while keeping cash flow strong. The latest half year supports parts of that claim. Group revenue in Q2 stepped up, helped by mobilezone hardware and contract sales, and subscriptions passed 10 million with solid net adds in both Mobile and IPTV. That is exactly where the growth story was supposed to show progress.
On profitability, the picture is more mixed. Adjusted EBITDA in H1 improved strongly and free cash flow reached €155 million, which lines up with the cash focused thesis and allowed management to confirm full year guidance. However, Q2 net income and EPS were lower than the prior year and mobile gross profit was hit by an unfavorable MNO (mobile network operator) agreement. So the growth engines are working, but not yet fully flowing through to earnings.

See the consensus price target analysis for freenet to check whether Wall Street price targets are keeping pace with the story investors are telling. The cautious view on freenet is that complex execution in Mobile, TV and mobilezone integration will keep margins under pressure even if subscribers rise. This set of results gives that view some backing. Net income in Q2 declined despite higher revenue and adjusted EBITDA, which fits the concern that upfront investment and mix effects are squeezing the bottom line. Management called out an unfavorable MNO (mobile network operator) agreement hurting mobile gross profit and also flagged ongoing ARPU drag that may only stabilise from H2 2027. That lines up with fears about persistent mobile pricing pressure.
On mobilezone, revenue contribution is clear but hardware heavy mix carries lower margin and there is limited hard evidence yet of meaningful synergies. Waipu.tv EBITDA is improving, although subscriber gains lean on lower priced bundles. Bears worried about execution can point to guidance being merely confirmed rather than raised and to H2 targets described as challenging.
