US Central Command: Over the past 48 hours, several media outlets have reported multiple false claims relating to the deployment of the aircraft carrier “Abraham Lincoln” to the Middle East. One report claims that seven sailors were killed in a brawl aboard an aircraft carrier, while others suggest a recent surge in suicidal ideation. These reports are false. The truth is: “Abraham Lincoln” has always maintained one of the highest crew renewal rates of any aircraft carrier in the US Navy. The sailors and marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group remained resilient and determined after spending more than 260 days at sea, carrying out 10,000 aircraft flights, and consuming 1.5 million pounds of ammunition. No servicemen aboard the aircraft carrier died, and a sailor who fell into the water on August 3 was quickly and safely rescued. The wanton misreporting of the historic deployment of the “Abraham Lincoln” is an injustice to our uniformed personnel and their loved ones.
