Preparation of the national standard for humanoid robot “testing” begins in Optics Valley
Currently, China's humanoid robot industry is on the eve of large-scale application. Formulating relevant national standards can not only unify technical interfaces and safety assessments, but also help seize the voice of the global industry.
On August 13, the launch meeting of the “Humanoid Robot Test Method” series of national standards was held in Optics Valley. At the meeting, preparation of 7 standards, including general rules, environmental perception, decision planning, and motion control, began simultaneously.

What are test methods for humanoid robots? Liu Xin, Secretary General of the Humanoid Robotics Sub-Technical Committee of the National Robotics Standardization Technical Committee, said that the test method is to specify how the humanoid robot can be tested and how to determine whether it actually meets the standards, which is equivalent to an “examination syllabus” approved by the country. “Currently, every robotics company's technical standards and testing methods are different, making it difficult to replicate on a large scale. Only when standards are established can the industry really run.”
Two Optics Valley companies participated in the formulation of the national standard. Among them, Chengxin Zhilian is responsible for preparing some standards for positioning and navigation, and is the only leading unit in Hubei. Warwick is a core contributor to the Environmental Perception section.
On site, the Hubei Electronic Information Standardization Technical Committee's Working Group on Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence Standards was inaugurated. The first batch of members covered 29 organizations including the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, Hubei Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology, Wuhan University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Experts attending the meeting said that in the future industry of humanoid robots, competition for the right to speak out in standard setting is already underway. The launch of national standards in Wuhan means that Optics Valley enterprises are no longer just bystanders of “implementing standards,” but are gradually moving towards the front desk of “participating in standard setting.”
It was no accident that this national conference took place in Hikari Valley. Currently, the scale of the physical intelligence industry in Hubei Province has exceeded 40 billion, there are more than 140 enterprises related to the humanoid robot industry chain, and more than 60% are from Optics Valley.
In terms of complete machines, 10 machine companies, including Hubei Qiling, Wuhan Gelanruo, Wuhan Smart Innovation, Optics Valley Huahui, Optics Valley Dongzhi, and Optics Valley Shengchuang, have developed and released 23 models of Esan humanoid robots.
In terms of parts, Hubei has gathered 108 related manufacturers, covering 31 categories of core components in the humanoid robot industry chain. 47 companies have already entered the whole machine supply chain. Many of them occupy key positions in the industrial chain. For example, Warwick's electronic skin and Yuansheng Innovative IMU inertial sensors account for more than 70% of the market; Langyi Robotics' self-developed “Lingqing SR360” self-developed cerebellar module accounts for 86% of the domestic autonomous mobile humanoid robot market; Chengxin Intelligent Link integrates IMU and other types of sensing devices to provide personalized intelligent smart park solutions; and products such as Smeite transmission RV reducers and Kefeng intelligent precision planetary reducers are also in a leading position at home and abroad.
In order to promote the development of the physical intelligence industry, Optics Valley has built and used the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. The center has a total area of nearly 7,000 square meters, including motion training grounds, data collection sites, application practice sites, and talent training bases. It simulates 23 types of real scenarios such as supermarkets, restaurants, and factories. It is the largest humanoid robot innovation platform with the richest application scenarios in China.
Not long ago, Optics Valley specially set up an intelligent talent training base in Hubei, built a talent supply ecosystem integrating “government, industry, academia, research and use”, and established the province's first integrated AI ecosystem operator, Qiyuan Smart Domain, to specifically coordinate relevant resources and incubate and cultivate the upstream and downstream industrial ecology.
