Listen to the news

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of AudioEye, Inc. (NASDAQ:AEYE), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

AudioEye Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Director James Hawkins made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$220k worth of shares at a price of US$5.91 each. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$7.99), we still think insider buying is a positive. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

AudioEye insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. The average buy price was around US$7.90. These transactions show that insiders have confidence to invest their own money in the stock, albeit at slightly below the recent price. Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. AudioEye insiders own about US$18m worth of shares. That equates to 18% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Do The AudioEye Insider Transactions Indicate?

The fact that there have been no AudioEye insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. Insiders do have a stake in AudioEye and their transactions don't cause us concern.
