Hong Kong stock market opening | Hang Seng Index opened 0.74% higher, gold stocks and Technet stocks strengthened, Shangtang-W (00020) rose more than 7%

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on August 17, the Hang Seng Index rose 0.74% to 25,303.41 points; the Hang Seng Technology Index rose 1.14% to 4761.20 points; and the State-owned Enterprises Index rose 0.85% to 8411.87 points.

Gold stocks strengthened. Zijin Gold International (02259) rose more than 3%, Shandong Gold (01787), China Gold International (02099), Lingbao Gold (03330), and Chifeng Gold (06693) rose nearly 3%, and Zhaojin Mining (01818) and Zijin Mining (02899) rose more than 2%. Spot gold rose above 4,400 US dollars/ounce, driving gold and non-ferrous metals stocks higher.

Technology Network stocks rose collectively. Shangtang-W (00020) rose more than 7%, JD Group-SW (09618) rose more than 3%, Lenovo Group (00992) rose more than 2%, Alibaba-W (09988) rose nearly 2%, Tencent Holdings (00700) rose 1%, and Xiaomi Group-W (01810) and Baidu Group-SW (09888) rose 0.7%. Shang Tang made a profit last Friday evening. It is expected to turn a loss into a profit in the first half of 2026, recording a profit of about 500 million to 700 million yuan during the period, the first consolidated profit since the company went public.

Among the constituent stocks of the Hang Seng Index, China Telecom (00728) and others had the highest declines.

Overnight, the three major US stock indices closed down slightly, and the Nasdaq China Golden Dragon Index closed up 0.61%, driving Hong Kong stocks to open higher today.
