Japan's Kyodo News reported today that, according to relevant sources, Japan's Ministry of Defense has begun studying the introduction of artificial intelligence technology developed by US companies into the Japanese Self-Defense Forces' command and control system — the purpose is allegedly to “use AI to assist commanders to analyze battle conditions, select targets, and even issue orders to the military, thereby speeding up the decision-making process.” The report said that in order to avoid excessive reliance on specific countries or companies, Japan's Ministry of Defense plans to “comprehensively utilize AI systems from different countries or enterprises, including AI made in Japan.” Allegedly, the MSS system of the American company Palantir Technology is also among the candidates. The system can integrate and analyze large amounts of data collected from channels such as satellites and reconnaissance aircraft, and used to formulate combat plans, etc. Allegedly, the US military has already used this system in military operations against Iran.
