On August 17, AstraZeneca announced the termination of the Evolve-Lung02 phase III clinical trial. This trial evaluated the effects of volrustumig combination chemotherapy as a first-line treatment for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and compared it with pabolizumab in combination with chemotherapy. After reviewing the trial data, the Independent Data Monitoring Committee concluded that in patients with PD-L1 expression below 1%, the combination therapy is unlikely to reach the two main endpoints of progression-free survival and overall survival. AstraZeneca said that the safety of volrstomig combination chemotherapy was consistent with known drug characteristics, and no new safety signals were found. The company will work with researchers to ensure patients receive ongoing treatment and proper follow-up. Other volrustomig phase III trials are still progressing according to plan.
