On August 18, local time, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Ansari said that the current diplomatic efforts of the Kazakh side are mainly focused on mitigating the crisis and preventing further escalation of the situation. The way to resolve the current crisis is to achieve a cease-fire between the US and Iran, open the Strait of Hormuz, and guarantee freedom of navigation, while pushing the US and Iran back to the negotiation table. Ansari said that Qatar and Pakistan had previously participated in the mediation to facilitate the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. The Kazakh side is making efforts to push the two parties to the crisis to resume dialogue and implement the contents of the memorandum, but due to the cease-fire being broken, the relevant provisions have not been fully implemented. Currently, the Kazakh side is awaiting an agreement between Oman and Iran on the Strait of Hormuz issue, hoping to use this to promote the resumption of negotiations and avoid further escalation of the situation. Ansari also said that the current priority is to reach an agreement that can simultaneously ensure the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and achieve a cease-fire. Qatar will continue to push the parties concerned to return to negotiations to implement previously reached memorandums of understanding or reach an agreement to end the war.
