Novo Nordisk Begins Phase 3 Trial of Low-Dose Oral Wegovy for Obesity

05:27 AM EDT, 08/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Novo Nordisk (NOVO-B.CO) has begun the phase 3 clinical trial of low-dose oral Wegovy, or semaglutide, in overweight or obese adults, according to data from the US National Institutes of Health updated Tuesday. The trial, which is expected to enroll about 450 participants, will evaluate two oral doses of semaglutide against placebo as the Danish drugmaker seeks to determine the optimal lower dose for weight management. Participants at 62 study sites must be overweight or obese and have at least one weight-related comorbidity. The preliminary completion of the study is estimated for February 2028, with overall completion expected in April that year.
