US President Trump appointed White House policy adviser Heidi Overton as the director of the US Food and Drug Administration on the 19th local time. The appointment is still subject to approval by the Senate of the National Assembly. Overton attended the University of New Mexico Medical School in his early years and later received a doctorate degree in clinical research from Johns Hopkins University. She was the chief policy officer at the conservative think tank “American Priority Policy Research Institute”. She is currently the Deputy Director of the White House Domestic Policy Committee, and participated in various health-care initiatives during Trump's second presidential term. Trump said in a social media post that after Overton becomes FDA director, he will help promote his “America First” policy. “She dared to take on the toughest problems and provide me with solutions that best benefit the country.” Trump wrote.
