Large-scale new investments such as semiconductor clusters and artificial intelligence data centers were officially launched, and the Korean government drastically raised the forecast for maximum electricity demand in 2040 to 165 GW. This is only a few months after previous predictions, and the scale increased by up to 26.8 GW. Among them, the maximum power demand for data centers in 2040 is estimated to be 14.2 GW. New demand excluding trend growth was 11.9 GW, an increase of 7.9 GW over the 4.0 GW originally forecast. The net increase in electricity consumption also increased more than threefold from the original 26.5 TWh to 84.9 TWh.
