08:31 AM EDT, 08/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- France's consumer watchdog fined a unit of Debenhams Group (DEBS.L), formerly named Boohoo Group, 2.3 million euros for misleading business practices and non-compliance with product-labeling rules, according to a Thursday release. During its investigation, the General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control found that Boohoo.com.uk, on the French version of its website, misled customers by exaggerating discounts, creating a false impression of the savings shoppers could receive. The British retailer's unit also used labels including leather and suede to sell synthetic products, which is against the product-labeling rules in France, the regulator said. The company accepted the fine, according to the release. Debenhams did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
