A Brazilian court announced on the 20th that 19 more Brazilian cities have joined the compensation agreement reached between the Brazilian government and the companies involved in the 2015 tailings dam collapse, including Mariana, where the accident mainly occurred. According to reports, out of 49 cities that are eligible to receive compensation, 45 have now joined this compensation agreement. The Brazilian court said that the remaining 4 cities can still apply to join in the future. In November 2015, an iron ore tailings dam operated by Brazil's Samaco company broke down near Mariana in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Not only did 19 people die and hundreds were homeless, but it also caused forests to be flooded and the Dosi River to be seriously polluted.
