Peru declared a 30-day state of emergency in the five regions of Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna due to heavy rainfall, according to a government resolution document. Earlier news said that Peru's Fujimori government will declare a state of emergency in Arequipa due to a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas. The resolution states that after entering a state of emergency, the energy mining supervisory authority Osinergmin can take “urgent” measures to ensure the operation of energy-related businesses.
