According to the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Administration, in order to further tighten the responsibilities of online platform entrepreneurs, rectify outstanding issues such as inadequate qualification verification of registered merchants, unfair platform rules, quality safety and food safety of key products, further standardize the order of online transactions, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers and operators within the platform, the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Administration organized an administrative guidance meeting for platform enterprises on August 19. The conference reported on compliance risks in the current operation of online trading platforms based on the self-inspection of online trading platforms in the province and the results of third-party expert reviews. The conference pointed out that some platforms have problems such as formality of merchant license verification and imperfect dynamic qualification management mechanisms, and there are also obvious shortcomings in the control of sporadic small transactions and consistent verification of account holders; some platforms have subjective and vague “pocket clauses” in their rules, which are not compatible with the circumstances of the violation, unreasonable distribution of rights and responsibilities, and fuzzy complaint and remedy mechanisms, which not only infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of merchants, but also breed online transaction security risks.
